I purchased a lily last year that was already potted and all I had to do was bring home and drop in the water. I have been trying to repot was little plants I have. When I was washing the dirt, mud and sand off I noticed alot of little worms (looks like wiggle worms).
Is that normal?
I repotted in pepples. This is the only lily that my mean ole' fish haven't destroyed.

not sure what a wiggle worm is. Were they small and red?

No - it was like a tiny earthworm. Brown in color - about 1 inch long.

Ok, first a stupid question. Are you sure you aren't looking at a long string of poop?

Anyway, actual earthworms do fall into ponds every once in a while. Could be a legit earthworm. Do you have many or just a few?

I guess so, they are babies for sure. The plant has been in the pond since last summer. WIERD.

I do think actual earthworms would drown under water, however. Could it be some kinda nematode perhaps? This is strange. And your fish have never been affected?

No, I rinsed the dirt out, and put the plant back in - now in pepples.

Must have been some sort of nematode that could handle being under water, earth worms would for sure drown.

You most likely found plant leeches. Harmless to fish and people. They eat decating plant matter. And it is curious that you found your lily does well in rock, I have found that they always do better in dirt. Clay if possible. And it sounds like your fish have reached the "That lily is a football for us" stage.
