I like the high density polyethylene. It feels durable and sturdy.

The lid is nice and heavy. It has a port for filling up with sand and the cap is nice and tight. I have had no issues with the lid. Cons
Doesnt fit in cinder block arrangement. I had to chip three blocks to accomodate skimmer, then back-fill the voids with concrete. Pain in the butt!

The rod that holds the brushes was cut too short! The rod would fall into unit easily. However, that problem can be solved easily.

The brush nearest the pump port can slightly get into the pump port. It's not much, but it will impede the flow. Either use only 4 brushes or bend the brush so it won't impede the pump performance Overall Rating

Little Giant Skimmer model LG2K5. This is their 5000 gallon pond size. I paid about $225 from online box store. Shipped well and contained all the parts it specified as containing.

Cover holds about 25#s of sand and the cap (in center) is nice and heavy duty.

2" port for draining. I had to drill to suite my needs. I use a 45d pvc to adjust my water level to exactly where I wanted it. Also this helps with removing DOC's and any oils and surface dust.

Water coming into the unit.

The clips are at the top of unit. The sapce right below the clips is how it comes. I cut out a section to increase the potential for debris to enter. I sanded edges smooth as well.

The suction port (to pump) is placed to far forward of the unit so it won't accomodate cinder blocks easily. In my build I had to chip away about 6 blocks to conform to the unit. Then had to backfill the void with concrete. Major PITA! So, this is defineately an issue if using cinder blocks.

You can see the prescores for the drain. Both sides of uniot are identical, so you can plumb in any way.

The brushes are nice. I used thenm for the first six months than decided to discontinue their use.

Problem- the rod that holds the brushes was cut too short and will fall into unit. (Look at my left hand and my finger shows the gap.) The unit expands slightly when filled with water. If the unit were buried than it may not have flexed as much.

Leaf net is sturdy and durable.

4489

No surface debris!
