First bloom from the tropicals that live in my basement over winter.

Welcome to the forum, Holly! Perhaps you could tell us a bit about your pond. With pictures, if possible :big smile:

Gorgeous!

How do you take care of your lilies? They are some of the healthiest I've ever seen. I'm planning on redoing my lily pond next year. It was thrown together to have a place to move my plants and it shows!

Thanks all, I love playing with the camera, my biggest problem is getting a clean shot, no chicken wire, fence post etc lol

kntry I am a lazy gardener, sort of, I put them in wally world oil pans, 1/4-1/2 cup osmocote on the bottom kitty litter on top, drop in the tuber. Every now and them wander into the pond and groom old leaves and flowers off, maybe once a month or more add some tabs. OW totally ignore except to go prettttttttttttty lol

I start them shallow, let them get some good leaves on them then push them deep, the deepest they go is around 3 feet plus minus. I grab the poor plants by their stems to get them up to where I can work on them, but with the oil pans they move very easily, sort of float up. I do get pretty wet when messing around but it is hot so it feels good. In the winter I have a grabber I can grab them and pull them shallow, also have some waders.

lily lady, no clue on the tropicals, I think meganne sent me one, it winters in the basement. I think it is a tropical since it is a bulb not a tuber type plant. The other one I have, just growing is a night bloomer.

This is a cleaned up i.e. cropped shot got rid of the junk in the picture. But the flowers should have had more picture above them, but the chicken wire was there and it was too hot to move it. This one is in my pvc frame floating in the deep end, the plant is around 2 foot down in kitty litter and a oil pan

Lazy gardener? I suppose it's all how you look at it. I'd say it's more that you know what the reward is gonna be for the amount of effort applied. And the reward is greater.

Good stuff. And very good advice.

That's how I plant mine, too. Maybe the difference is I don't have time to pull old leaves.

I think you sent a white too meganne, cause I have a real nice white. I know you sent a bunch of small starts and tubers the first year I had the pond. Think your fish had messed them up or something lol

That perry orange sunset is a hardy? This is the first time it has ever bloomed for me in the two years I have had it. I was surprised at the color. More buds where coming up, but not home to see them darn it lol

Maybe it is the grooming, I do tend to go into the pond when I see a bunch of yellow leaves about every two weeks or so and cut all the dead stuff off.
the black princess is not quite as red as the web shows it is a deep deep pink, leaning towards red. I had bought the almost black from lily lady, but not sure which one it is. Not good at keeping them straight in what is what lol

I have read that ph etc can affect the colors, my ph tends to be in the mid 7 range

I love that colorado, it constantly has clusters of pink blooms being held high above the water, well I should say I love them all lol

All you are missing is a purple. :)

would love a purple if it was a hardy! The tropicals it is a guess if they will survive in the basement, so far have made it.
