Yes finally got them and their existing filtration moved over to the new pond on Saturday...We still have a few tweeking to do on the returns to the pond and some rock work but, it is fully functional....5' deep near the bottom drain with air and 4'6" near the other bottom drain...between the pond and the filtration it holds 6,000 gallons...a few pics for you guys....I sure hope they like their new home---I'm soooo sore right now --wore out and dog tired.....the table is so they have a hiding hole untill they get used to their new pond....wow a proper koi pond takes alot more planning and prep than just digging a hole and throwing in a pump and liner...but, well worth it...

koikeeper-the pond is 6,000 gallons- 4'6"-5' deep...it is about 14x16' but, the inside of the pond is not that big....the top of the pond is 1 block high and pulled about a foot or so back from the pond sides.....
Cindy it has 2 - 4" bds one with air the other without---both of them go into a 100 gallon stock tank with brushes and matting---from there the pump a 4200 gallon sequence takes it into a 275 gallon square tank with bio material(Japanese matting, Matala, and reticulated foam) it also has air...that goes back into the pond... the skimmer has a 1,800 gallon an hour pump in it that goes into a 55 gallon barrel of K1 and air then back into the pond....I have a UV if I need it but, I won't use it unless I need to....I don't plan on keeping any more than 6 koi in it so...they should have plenty of filtration......

I was wondering where you've been. AWESOME! I bet John's tired, too. It's a lot of work but so worth it.
Fred & Ginger are going to be so much happier and healthier next Spring. They're going to pass the 32" mark now!
I see babies!!!!!! It told ya so.

Sandy those are the 2 I kept back a few years ago..I can't believe how much they have grown this year....I'm really happy with them so far....Yep healthy--thats all I'm hoping for.... I'm having a problem though---the air on the bd is preventing the skimmer from sucking in the leaves---the air is pushing them into the far right corner where they are just swirling around---I'm gonna end up having to move the skimmer down to that corner next spring---shouldn't be to hard though because I folded the liner down quite a bit before I cut the hole out--just incase something didn't work out right....I think I have room for at least one more fish in there---one of the red asagi that we spawned this year maybe :big smile:.....

Lawanna, I'm sooo happy for you! How about turning the air and filters off for a couple minutes and getting us a few clear pics of those incredible Asagi. They're so beautiful and I want another look at them.

If you turn the air down a little, maybe the skimmer will be able to work. The air on the BD's doesn't need to be wide open.

I will try and switch it around to reduce the air flow then...I have a pondmaster 100 and am running the bd and both tanks on it...so I can reduce the flow to it and see if that works....thanks---hadn't thought of that....
Peppy I'll see about getting some pics of the fish tomorrow..

Lawanna, is the BD tied to the skimmer on the same pump? If so, can you adjust the flow a little to make the skimmer just a little stronger?

I would think no matter where the skimmer is some of the leaves will get pushed away from the skimmer from the air. I know it isn't the best, but the ones that don't make it to the skimmer sink in my pond and go to my leaf basket from my bottom drain. My biggest problem is the leafs get caught in the rocks around the edges. DC

Sandy no its seperate pumps--Bill and Kyle both said that it would be best if the skimmer had its own pump so thats what I went with---I'm glad I did--I really didn't want to take any thing away from the bd's...
DC--yep I've got mats and brushes in the machanical filter that will catch what ever leaves that sink and get sucked into the bds....I'm allready seeing leaves getting up into the rocks to be a problem--next fall I'm investing in a good net to cover the pond--but, by the time I ordered one now and got it in the mail---most of the leaves would have already fallen for this fall...in the last week they have really starting to drop...and of course blow straight over the house and into the pond....

If you can balance out the air from the BD and the pull of the skimmer, everything will go to the skimmer. In the QT pool, I have to put the food in a feeding ring or it gets sucked into the skimmer before they can eat it.
I'm glad you put them on separate circuits. You won't be sorry.
