Those look like Doitsu Lemon Hariwake. They are not a new variety. They've been around for a long time.

Oh. I was going by the title of video:
Yellowish new breed - Yellow Doitsu + Wagoi at Niigata Nogyosai 2010
I like them!

And the sign above the tank said 'Yellowish New Breed' and 'Nigata Prefectoral Inland Water Fisheries Experiment Station.'
Notice they spelled 'experiment' wrong...

Unless there's something you can't see in vid, they sure look like Lemon Hariwake to me. Good ones at that!

That's a nice kohaku-like pattern. Nice. On Lemon Hariwake's it's a bit harder to find good all over thick pattern like that unless you pay up. Usually they've got a full head full of color and some smallish flecks of yellow down the back.
But, I agree with Sandy, they simply look like great quality hariwake.

They don't look metallic to me. Hariwake are metallic. And the yellow is not a clean yellow, it's almost more of what you'd see on some of the more yellowish midorigoi. It's so hard to tell in a video. they are pretty, but I think I like the metallic sheen of a hariwake better.

They look very metallic on my computer. The yellow is a darker yellow than normal but I thought it was my computer.

The bodies look metallic, but the heads don't. They look just plain white to me. This is an image I pulled off the web. See how different the head looks? These new fish have no luster on their heads. Also look at the pec fins. They are nearly transparent on the new breed. Metallic koi have metallic pec fins. And the yellow is certainly a different shade that we are used to seeing. The breeder says he crossed yellow doitsu with wagoi. Not too specific there, is he?

I see what you're saying, Cindy, now that I'm at work. My puter at home is just above dial up, maybe, so all I could see was the main screen. There's no use trying to download the vid, they won't work. The heads and pecs are different.

I see what you mean Carolinagirl. I have a Hariwake and I'm not sure what to call it because the body is lemon yellow but the head is orange. I guess I should just call it a pond koi, LOL! It's scaled and the head is metallic and shaped more like the picture you posted of a Hariwake.
I like these new yellow koi. I imagine a big one would look like a kohaku with yellow instead of red. Hard to tell in the video if the white is white or more of a doitsu blusih color. If the white is white and heads get white as they get older, I imagine a nice looking koi.

The yellow looks like the shade marusei uses to make his aka mae kigoi with.
Crossing doutsu and wagoi often results in redundant scales on the doutsu.
You can tell by the showa and sanke examples that the process of refinement has not yet begun. Gonna be awhile before they get that straightened out. I can't say I'd honestly get excited about the varieties they've choosen. I'd love to find a ki bekko from their sanke breeding, however. I miss seeing them and good Ki Utsuri.....I'd have to think more about a yellow tancho before commenting.

Ki Utsuri...sigh. Mine turned orange. Yellow keeps turning orange in my pond. Even my Hariwake that was lemon yellow keeps getting darker and I'm sure it will end up orange too. My female Shusui got orange on the blue and even my Ochiba is getting orange spots on the orange. What is doing this???

Are you saying genetics is causing orange spots even on the Ochiba? They blended in with its orange in the summer but now that it paled for winter, the orange spots are visible.

I think water conformation has a lot to do with it as well. Mineral content, hard, soft, etc.
Have you ever tried using koi clay, Peppy?

What is your alkalinity and hardness? I'm betting you have hard water.

I forget which one is kh and gh but ph is 8+ and the other 300 on a stick. Every time I used koi clay I got hair algae. I don't think I've used it since redoing the pond.
I did read hard water will do that but then some other people said not. So much conflicting information out there.
