    Infrastructure

We are contemplating building a 3000 or less pond with goldfish. We are trying to figure out some things in regards to the hardware involved. I am trying to select equipment that is sufficient for the job, but keeping operating costs at a minimum and not forget ease of operation. The biggest problem is that we cannot discover where and how these things are placed and what you can and cannot do.

For instance can I have a mag drive pump attached to an in pond skimmer that will also feed a waterfall that is about 6' high. I assume the pump, whatever the rest of the configutation is would need to be at the lowers portion of the pond?

Any help in this area will be appreciated greatly:)

Welcome to the forum, Hanna! Glad to have you.

As for your questions, I think the best first read would be here: http://www.thepondforum.com/showthre...TRATION-BASICS

After reading that, and browsing through any of the DIY stickies that catch your eye, you can start a thread in the DIY section for your build, and bring 2 things: Photos and questions.

    See you there!

Glad you're here. Even through you're looking at a goldfhsih...which can get pretty large...the Filtration Basics thread will provide a good background an options to make maintenance less of a chore and to help ensure good water quality for fish health and survival.

Just a quick though on pumps. Generally, extenal pumps are going to a bette options from ease of use and operating cost. If looking at a 6ft waterfall, submergibles can lose a lot of flow capacity as the head loss increase. Definaley start a construction forjm thread when you're ready to really start the planning process.
