    need info on pump power

I hope I am at the right site. I am new at this, so please bear with me. I am attempting to build a small rock bubbler waterfall in my front flower bed. The pond/ reservoir is a 50 gallon insert. I am going to have three faux "rocks" or boulders that I will make, and the tubing will be 1/2" ID. I went to Lowes and found a "great" deal on a submersible pond pump. It cost me ~$72.00 which I could not pass up. The problem (some would say) is that it is a 3600 GPH pump. My plan is to make a manifold for four 1/2" shut-off valves. Three will go to the rocks, and one will return to the pond. I know this is a lot flow and possible pressure, but I'm sure I can meter the flow down using the valves.

My concern is mainly with the pump itself. Will metering down the discharge of the water affect the pump's performance? In other words, could I possibly damage the pump by restricting the discharge? Any suggestions (other than buying another pump ) would be very helpful. Thanks!

What type pump? Magnetic drive? No problem restricting flow if restricted on the outflow side.

It took me a while to find out information about the pump, but I do believe it is a magnetic drive. Thanks for your reply!
