    Sealing a liner to sandstone

I have moved into a house with a rudimentary unfiltered pond in a spectacular setting beside 40foot sandstone cliffs. The previous owner excavated a "bowl" down to sandstone bedrock and it seems to be watertight. At present it holds about 10,000 gallons but there is potential to double that through a small amount of re-inforcement of the pond sides.
I would like to develop this into a koi pond (I had a 6000gallon purpose-built pond at my last house). However, to install liner and bottom drains in the conventional way, I will need to seal it to the sandstone cliffs in a way which is not obtrusive.
